Briefing for a Descent into Hell by Doris Lessing
Professor Charles Watkins abruptly loses his memory, is relentlessly drugged by dedicated physicians, who finally and triumphantly manage to drive him sane again. But between his collapse and his cure (or 'cure') the primeval energy of Watkins' mind explodes, thrusting him into a succession of nightmarish trips that wildly oscillate between chaos and cosmos.
One of the achievements of this novel is to give magnificent imagery to the proposition that in a more-or-less insane world the only sane people are perhaps those dubbed technically mad: but Briefing for a Descent into Hell is rich on so many levels that each reader is pretty much on his own.

Condition: Good
A vintage book that has been read but is in good condition. Some minor damage to the cover including minor scuff marks and scratching, but no holes or tears. The majority of pages are undamaged with no creasing or tearing, no pencil underlining of text, no highlighting of text, no writing in margins. All pages have discoloured a fair bit due to age, none of which compromises the legibility or understanding of the text. No missing pages. An old and aged, but still a clean, solid and very much readable copy.
